NEW RESIDENTS / INTERNS

The Department of Veterans Affairs requires that you submit complete forms and documents as part of the application process. These items should be completed prior to your training experience. Please click on your training category below for instructions, forms and training requirements. We cannot accept scans or copies. RESIDENTS / INTERNS / RETURNING STUDENTS COMPULSORY TRAINING

To train for VA, you must complete a mandatory training program called VHA Mandatory Training for Trainees (MTT). This training is available through the VA Talent Management System (TMS). TMS offers online training for VA employees and partners (this includes all clinical interns, residents, interns, fellows, or paid or unpaid (WOC) students). Print out and follow the TMS instructions for self-registration, then log into the website below, self-register, complete the training, and print the certificate.

If you haven’t logged into TMS since August 2018, there are many changes as part of the system upgrade.

Residents who have already completed the course “Compulsory Training for Trainees” in TMS are eligible to take the course titled “VHA Compulsory Training for Trainees – Refresher Course”. Log in to the TMS website using your new ‘username’, which should be the email address you registered with in TMS. Try using the “Forgot Username” option on the main TMS login page to get this information if you don’t know it. If this does not work, you will need to contact the help desk (extension 6235) to obtain your “username” for the TMS connection and ask them to add a direct phone number to your TMS account.

COMPUTER PATIENT RECORD SYSTEM (CPRS)

Birmingham VA Medical Center uses a Computerized Patient Registration System (CPRS). CPRS training opportunities are available; please contact your service line representative to register. If you have never used an electronic medical record, we encourage you to visit the online refresher course before your internship. SCRP training
